Sports therapy

Best suited to people with pain, injuries, or previous injuries.

The initial sports therapy appointment is essential to beginning your journey out of pain or injury; it allows the therapist to do an in-depth consultation; postural assessment, movement assessment, joint and muscle strength testing all of which help to diagnose, plan and treat the issue. This appointment also gives time for soft tissue treatment involving an array of techniques, some of which are trigger point, myofascial, muscle energy, massage, transverse frictions and soft tissue release therapies. A treatment plan will be put together to be used in the follow up appointment.

Sports therapy follow up appointments will include going through the rehabilitation program that was put together for you, based on what was diagnosed at the initial appointment and your short and long term goals, further testing and soft tissue treatment may also be involved

Which treatment is best for me?

All treatments use traditional Swedish Massage Techniques to help relax, soften and mobilise the soft tissues with varying degrees of pressure. Below will give you a better understanding of which solution will suit your needs and requirements

Sports Massage

The good thing about this treatment process is you don’t need to do sport to have this type of massage Sports massage is just a term for massage where the strokes can vary in intensity, speed, and depth to either stimulate or activate the soft tissue or to start the recovery process.

Pre-Event massage techniques are superficial, quick strokes to bring warmth and stimulate the muscles before activity. For example, as part of a warm-up process, this can be used to help elevate the heart rate and temperature of the soft tissue, muscles and tendons.

Post-Event massage techniques are considered slower, deeper movements with slightly more added pressure. In a clinical environment, this is mainly used for generic soft tissue recovery and provides the opposite effect to pre-event. It can also be classed as Deep Tissue Massage, helping release tension from acute, sub-acute and chronic issues.

Sports Therapy

This treatment solution aims to deal with specific ailments, restrictions or injuries that affect individuals during day-to-day life, whether it’s impacted by work situations, inadequate rest or rehabilitation or through poor technique, prolonging symptoms. Using the same testing criteria as in Sports Massage, it’s important to determine how the range and fluidity of movement may cause imbalances or instability within the body from an Anatomical, Physiological, Pathological, Biomechanical and Kinesiology point of view.

This may involve a postural assessment along the different planes of motion, for muscular activation, strength and endurance, joint mobility, neurological issues, pelvic instability and postural imbalances.

Following this process, an exercise solution can be created to help identify any strengths or weaknesses as well as opportunities to improve areas and the threat of the recurrence of injury.

This may involve an assessment of gait (walking) analysis, an understanding of current exercise program and knowledge to deliver a solution which can be carried out at home or in a fitness studio, adaptable using Proprioception, Bodyweight, TheraBand or free weights or resistance machine assistance where necessary.
